Credit Card
Mrs. hawthorne, one of the more particular of our passengers, doesn't much care for carrying all sorts of cash on her person whilst she is traveling and has taken on the quaint custom of using, the vast majority of the time, a credit card. Some of the other passengers, themselves not a little particular, were turning up their noses and pruning their lips, the most annoying of all habits as they kept seeing her charging everything on her credit card debts. Little did they know that she was on to something that they would also warm up to in the end...
She kept better track of her spending
Mrs. Hawthorne wasn't born yesterday and she had learned, over the course of her many years, that carrying cash made her risk two things, one being that she would get robbed and have difficulty trying resist the temptation to haggle with every street corner merchant for some "must-have" knock-off. By using here credit card with such frequency, she figured that she had already saved herself thousands of dollars. So it mattered not to her the ignorance and judgement, she knew that they would see for themselves that it far more relaxing to have a credit card debt when one is galavanting around the country on a train that's been derailed.
It is when the the train derailed that the rest of the passengers finally saw that they had been too hasty in passing judgement about the credit card lady, as she had been dubbed, and that during this forced delay, a few credit cards would have come in handy. While they had been sleeping they had passed out of the country and none of them had the right money to pay in cash. The plan had been to get that taken care of at the next stop, but now they needed a credit card and didn't have one.
As the sun rose higher in the sky the mouths of the passengers were parched, dry like a drum. The credit card lady took pity on them all and offered them all a tall glass of cool lemonade, all of which she charged to her, you guessed it, her credit card!
